Mental Health and Well-being
Approximately 25% of county residents have been diagnosed with depression, and 19% report experiencing anxiety symptoms. Alarmingly, suicide rates have increased by 10% between 2018 and 2024, underscoring the need for enhanced mental health services and support systems.
Access to Healthcare
Financial barriers significantly impact healthcare access. One in three residents reported difficulties in paying medical bills, and 20% avoided seeking medical care due to costs. Additionally, nearly 20% could not afford prescribed medications or took less than the prescribed amount, highlighting the necessity for more affordable healthcare options.
Housing
Housing instability remains a critical issue. In 2023, 40% of calls to the 211 helpline were related to housing concerns. Furthermore, 48.4% of renters spent over 30% of their income on housing, indicating a substantial burden on many households.
Trauma and Injury Prevention
Community safety is a growing concern, with 25% of residents reporting that gun violence has affected them or their loved ones. Similarly, a quarter of respondents indicated that substance abuse has impacted their lives, emphasizing the need for comprehensive prevention and intervention strategies.
Infant Mortality
Infant mortality rates continue to be a significant concern, necessitating targeted efforts to improve maternal and infant health outcomes through education, healthcare access, and community support.
